You’re relocating to a home with home security alarms
A new home may come with an existing home security system. All the components work, are installed in the right spaces, and are ready to go. In this example, just pick up the phone to call and start a new contract. A Vivint expert will still come out to make sure there are no usability problems, and they might offer ideas on where you should replace bad outdated components. It's a quick appointment, and you can have your alarm monitoring set up without paying for any new alarms and cameras -- unless you get some new devices.
The outgoing owners can move an existing Vivint contract to your family for a one-time set-up fee to make the transfer simpler. If the outgoing residents downsize to an apartment or retirement community, you keeping the home security contract may be an addendum of the sale.
You need to move and take your old devices with you
You may want to bring along your favorite smart devices with you to a new house when you move. Luckily, it's fairly easy to accomplish, as modern alarms and smart devices are wireless. You can take down each component yourself or contact a professional installer to dismantle the system. Then an expert will put in the same devices -- and any smart services you want to add -- in your new home. The home security contract will keep the same.
